Non-Profit Leaders
Tip of the Day: Start Using LinkedIn
Social Media – The Training Wheels Come Off!
During this time of crisis—Social Media is one way to get around Social Distancing.
Throughout the onset of the coronavirus crisis, I’ve been spending a great deal of time on the phone and on-line with many of my friends and colleagues who represent non-profit organizations. Like all of us, they are overwhelmed amid the sea of mixed messages coming from many sources.
They are struggling to find a balance between taking care of themselves and their families while simultaneously dealing with the obligations that they have to their employees, clients and their Board of Directors. Well, if you fall in that category—know that you are not alone.
I don’t work for LinkedIn—nor do I aspire to. But I am going to encourage my Friends and Colleagues who lead non-profit organizations---that if you’ve only used LinkedIn for promotional purposes, to stalk the job market or boast about a new appointment or promote some event that you’ve recently attended (along with a cheesy photo) –NOW, as the newly appointed Digital Leader, is time to take off the training wheels off of your Social Media machinery and use it to keep yourself and your business connected to the rest of the world.
Your communications and responses need to be clear and purposeful. Share and look to consume content that’s rich with substance, reflects the spirit of your mission and helps define your relevance—now and in the future. This is a job for LinkedIn. Not Facebook. Not Twitter. Not Instagram.
During this time of crisis, many of you will find that Social Media (particularly LinkedIn) might just be the most credible vehicle that you may have for a while to check-in and stay connected to others in your field who can assist you with through these very critical times.
